Do you wish you had more time in your day?
While I can’t give you more time in your day I can give you a quick tip on how you can make better use of your time. One of the super cool techniques you can do is call the Pomodoro technique. I learned this from a good friend and coach of mine. Here’s the link where you can get more details online (Pomodoro Technique) – but it’s very simple.
What you want to do is get a timer – sit down to do a specific task – set your timer for 25 minutes. If that’s too long for what you’ve got to do (or you have trouble focusing…) you can do a little bit shorter – but that’s the recommended time. Set your timer and get to work on your task. Also – have beside you a piece of paper and a pen. If during that 25 minutes you get distracted – just put a tick on that piece of paper. Don’t worry about what it’s about or anything – it’s just to acknowledge that you had that distraction and then get back to your task. When the timer goes off – then you’ll take a 5 minute break. At that time you can go to the washroom, get a drink of water, maybe do some desk exercises or take a little walk around. The main thing is to get away from your desk then sit down and do another 25 minutes.
If you can do 4 Pomodoros in a row – imagine how much work you could get done. After you complete 4 Pomodoros you can then take a 20 minute break.
I know for me this works really good because I am so easily distracted when I start to work on something. It’s so easy to be listening to something and then checking Facebook or your emails. This technique really helps me stay on task. I like trying to see how much I can get done in that 25 minutes. If you’re not finished your task in the 25 minutes that’s OK – take your break – then continue on with the next section of time.
Let me know how that goes for you. I like to use this as part of my accountability program that I help people with. If you have some goals and you know what you need to do but you just need someone to help keep you accountable – let me know. That is something I love to do. You can either leave me a message below or you can contact me thru my website www.coranaylor.com. I look forward to talking to you soon.
